My Christmas break has been just about perfect! Lovely time with my family, lots of time at my favourite place in Sydney, some great (and not so great) movies and lots of down time. I slept too much to be deeply contemplative, but the short spans I gave over to reflection was thinking about how great 2015 was, and my intention (and hopes) for the new year.
And in 2016, I wish you what I wish for myself. Trust and confidence for what lay ahead. Thankful that we can choose the people we spend time with. Contentment for nailing the things we want, and need, to do during the year.
The Internet's full of inspiring New Year quotes; but here's my favourite:
And now let us believe in a long year that is given to us, new, untouched, full of things that have never been, full of work that has never been done, full of tasks, claims, and demands; and let us see that we learn to take it without letting fall too much of what it has to bestow upon those who demand of it necessary, serious, and great things.
- Rainer Maria Rilke
Three messages to share:
- Starting 4 January, Coursera is again running the terrific Learning How to Learn MOOC. No probs if you want to start a few days late, but don't leave it too long. It's a great program to get your mind into shape for some harder thinking. Here's what I wrote about it last year.
- I'll be starting a series called 12-Week Challenge to a Better Career. My intention is to help you get a sense of control over your direction and addressing goals and mindset. A possible bonus extra: improved sense of satisfaction in your day-to-day work activities.
- The Love my Work interviews will be returning in February.
